Assassin's Creed 2 In Real Life

I'm pretty sure I've jumped across these poles before. Seriously.

I spent this past weekend in Venice, and the entire time I lived out my Assassin's Creed 2 fantasies. In retrospect, I wish I had looked at a map of the AC2 version of the city before getting there, but all in all I think I did a good job of finding some similar places. Luckily, Venice has been preserved excellently, and that really helped my search. After pickpocketing a few merchants and more than a couple whores, I decided to take some pictures.

Example #1: Canals

Canals are everywhere, and I found myself imagining whether or not I would jump across them from the rooftops or swim across. Given the fact that it was near-freezing at the time (there was still some snow on the ground, which was interesting), I think I'd prefer to traverse across the rooftops. As an added bonus, it looks like all the archers have died out, so there's no danger up there.

Example #2: San Marco's Square

Anyone that's played through Assassin's Creed 2 would have been just as giddy as I was when I walked through this square. Even better, I was able to go to all the places that are filled with mean guards in the game, without getting attacked. I even went inside, but it was flooding because of the high tide so I couldn't get too far into the church. Still, I got further than I did as Ezio!

Example #3: Glyphs and Art

There were all sorts of glyph-friendly places in the city. For example, we took a water ferry under Rialto Bridge, which had a glyph under it in the game. Alas, there were no glyphs to be found, just graffiti. Finally, inside a museum I came across Tintoretto's Cain Slaying Abel, which was one of the paintings I had to decipher to unlock a glyph in the game.

You should've graffitied in the glyphs for future Assassin's Creed-tourists.

Theoretically you could do a tour around most of the world checking out replica video game spots :)
